Amor

What is the definition of love? Can you really define something so powerful. The dictionary definition of love is an intense feeling of deep affection. It is also described as the object of attachment, devotion, or admiration. Love is something that is so universal. I would describe it as an emotion that transcends every cultural barrier. It is one of the most discussed topics. If you listen to the radio, the majority of the songs will be about love. Why is love so important? Love builds relationships. It is center of healthy and wholesome interactions. It paves the way for growth in a relationship. There are different kinds of love. There is the romantic love, platonic love, and family-based love. Each concept of love shares the same basic tenets. There is a sense of strong appreciation and admiration for an individual. I have never been in a serious romantic relationship before. Thus, I have never experienced the idea of being “in love”. However, based on my religious beliefs I know the characteristics in which I will look for when I find someone that I fall in love with. These include patience, kindness, selflessness, and humility. This recipe for love can be found in 1 Corinthians 13:4-7. It describes all the qualities that love attains. As a Christian, my belief is that God is love. How is he love? He is love, because he is a God of compassion, and exemplifies all the qualities of love that are listed in Corinthians. According to my beliefs, he showed the greatest act of love when he died for our salvation on the cross. He was sent to this earth out of love. john 3:16 said. “God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten son, that who so ever believes in him will not perish but have ever lasting life. ” To me that is the epitome of love. Although I have not officially been in any romantic relationships, I seem to have been blessed with the wisdom to decipher and counsel others in relationships. A lot of my friends and family come to me for advice on relationships. My wisdom comes from God, and fully assessing the situation. I try to be as objective as possible. I wanted to do this post as we get closer to Valentines Day. Valentines Day is one of the holidays that I have never really celebrated (due to my singleness). However, although it is so tactfully promoted as the “Day of Love”, I believe that you should celebrate those who you love every day not just on Valentines Day. Although Valentines Day is the occasion to celebrate your loved ones, you should always make an effort to do something special for them every once in a while. Ladies (and gentleman(, If you are single don’t worry about spending Valentines Day alone. It is perfectly ok. I would try to spend the day with other single friends or just have a Me-time day and go solo. It is nothing to be ashamed about. In fact, sometimes being single is one of the greatest gifts that you can give yourself. It is better being single than being in a relationship that doesn’t cause you to grow. I have mentioned this before, but don’t get into a relationship out of loneliness. Get into a relationship when you are emotionally prepared for the outcome. Also for my younger viewers please do not get involved in the dating game too early. Enjoy your childhood. Relationships in middle and even in high school rarely last. Its important for you to find yourself before you tie yourself into a relationship. I always say that you can’t give someone else love unless you love yourself. Being single gives you the opportunity for you to build yourself up. It will give you time to offer someone more of yourself and to find someone with higher standards. Don’t despise the days of young beginnings. I believe that there is a person out there for everyone. You just have to wait for the right time. Well that’s all that I have for today. Go out and love yourself.
