First Semester of College: Reflection

I can’t believe I have made it to the end of my first semester of college.  Summer B has been such a phenomenal experience. I have met so many new people and can tell that I have grown and matured as a person.  For anyone going to college next year, I would highly recommend that you start in the summer. Starting college off in the summer has definitely given me an advantage over my classmates who will start in the fall. I have familiarized myself with the campus and its resources. Likewise, I have already made and established a group of friends. Most importantly, I have a feel an understanding of what college course work entails. I am fortunate to say that my grades are looking stellar this semester. Moving forward, I will share with you some of the top things that I have enjoyed about my first semester of college.

  1. The Independence: For those of you who have not read my post “Dealing With Strict Parents” you would not have known that I have a loving but strict mother. Growing up, I would have to ask for permition for everything way in advance. However, in college I can essentially do what I want. Now don’t get me wrong, I still talk to and tell my mother what I’m doing. However,  its nice to be treated like an adult and take responsibility for yourself.
  2. The Socialization: As I have mentioned above, I have met so many incredible people. I had started making friends since before I got to school. This really prepared me in the sense that I didn’t come in not knowing ANYONE. Nonetheless, I have enjoyed making friends in person, organically. I know that I will meet plenty more people in the fall. Notwithstanding, I would be content if I stayed with the friends that I have today.
  3. The Environment: I am completely biased, but I believe that the University of Central Florida is one of the best universities (at least in the state of Florida). The positive energy  that is on campus is contagious. There are good vibes everywhere. People are friendly, and energetic. This summer, I felt like I was in a summer camp as opposed to being in school. The atmosphere of college is completely different then high school. I definitely prefer it and have had such a positive experience.
  4. The Fun: This summer has been a blast. On campus there were plenty of events and activities. I was rarely ever bored. I can only image how much more  fun I’ll have in the fall when everyone joins us. On a side note, I have had lots of fun at the gym. UCF has a state of the art gym. It is two stories with a pool, and a rock climbing wall. I have taken advantage of its freeness and have taken classes such as Zumba, Cardio Dance, kickboxing, and spinning. I have also climbed the rock wall. Moreover, one of my most memorable moments was going kayaking with my friends at Lake Claire, the lake on campus.

Well that’s all that I have for today. I will continue to keep you all updated on my college experience. Please feel free to like, comment, and share.

Stay Fabulous,

Abisola
