Fitspiration

Social media is so ingrained in our culture, that it is difficult to picture what our lives could be and were like without it. From instagram, to twitter, to facebook, we are constantly bombarded with images and videos of the average person’s “fabulous” life or famous people. If you are a female on instagram, I am sure you have seen pages with toned and taunt women holding “diet tea” bottles in their hands. These women are like models without the bone thin appearance. They are toned yet curvacious. They have beautiful, soft, hair and makeup to the tee. You can’t help but subconsciously want to look like them. I call these women my “fitspiration.” According to urban dictionary, fitspiration (fitness+inspiration) is when certain positive images such as a person, a pair of jeans, or a number on the scale, gives you inspiration to attain that goal. Those fitness models are motivation to make me want to live a healthy lifestyle so I can attain a body similar to theirs. Despite this sudden surge in motivation and inspiration, you must be wary of fitspiration. To begin with, sometimes what you see on social media, is not reality. In fact, a lot of images are not truly the reality. People photoshop their bodies to appear slimmer or more toned. Nowadays, photoshop is not just for high end magazines. People have access to apps on their phones that can completely alter their appearance. Continually, apart from photoshop sometimes the claims that people make concerning certain products are a fad. These fitness models are often carrying certain teas that are supposed to aid in weight loss. However, studies have shown that these detox teas do not have a direct correlation to signifcant weight loss. The majority of the time, the weight loss teas just cause you to have a lot of bowel movements, which reduces your water weight. In reality, if you want to see significant changes in your body the old fashioned way is always best: Diet and Exercise.  At the end of the day, it is a great thing to have a body that you want to aspire to. However, you are you and you will only be able to have a body that you are given with. So, embrace what you have. Enjoy the process of your fitness journey. Remember you are beautiful no matter what shape or size you are. Well, that’s all that I have for today. Feel free to comment, share, and like.

Stay beautiful,
