How To Make Time Slow Down

Hey guys,

How are you all doing? Lately it seems like time is just flying with a crazy speed.  I can’t believe we are almost to the end of June.  This year has been one of the fastest years of my life. I am someone that likes to think about the future a lot. I am a planner and I often neglect living in the moment because I am thinking of my next move. This is not a good quality, so I am trying to be more present in my life. Every moment is precious, so I will embrace it as much as I can. With this in mind,  here are some of my tips for living in the moment and making time “slow down”.

  1.  Chill out with the pictures

Social media has created a lifestyle obsession with taking pictures. The idea is to “capture the moment”. However, if you are so busy trying to Snapchat, Instagram, Facebook, etc, you might miss out on actually experiencing the memory. While I am not opposed to pictures for memories,  I do advise that you limit the amount of pictures you take.  When you are actively engaging in the moment, your brain will store the stimuli into your longterm memory.

2.  Journal

Reflection is very important in life. Taking the time to write down thoughts about your day, or what happened in your day can make the memory last longer. Journaling is also a great stress reliever.

3.  Don’t Overload Your Schedule

This is a big one that I need to work on. Although an idle mind is a devil’s workshop, having an excessively long to-do list is going to make you to exhausted to enjoy your life.  The key is finding balance. You don’t want to be too bored to the point where your days feel like eternity, yet you want to create enough space in your schedule for “me-time.”  You don’t have to go through life jumping on to the next thing. Sit back and smell the roses sometimes.

That’s all I have for today. I hope that you enjoyed this topic and found it helpful. If you have any questions, comments, or concerns, feel free to reach me at the contact section.

Have an amazing day,

5 Fun and Affordable Activities For The Summer

Blog Post Summer

Hey guys,

We are in the middle of summer and I am absolutely loving it.  The sun is shining, the hair is loose, skin is poppin’ and everything is relatively stress-free. If you’re like me and like to live life on a budget, here are some fun low-cost activities to do this summer.

  1.  Poolside Chillin’

This a classic summer activity.  Going to the pool is a perfect way to beat the heat and relax. Plus, swimming is a great form of exercise. Check out your local YMCA, community center, or a friend’s apartment complex for a nice water session.

2.   Beach Party

If you are like me and are blessed to live in a sunny location, take advantage of it and hit the beach. You can make it a party with food, good music, and a bonfire at night. It’s completely free (minus parking) so you can enjoy the beauty of nature without spending a dime.

3.  Kayaking

Although I’m not a big outdoorsy gal,  I do have to say that I love kayaking. It is so much fun, and a major workout.  Many communities have places where you can rent out kayaks for chump chain.  Are you a newbie to kayaking? Don’t fret. It is super easy to learn and catch on. You won’t regret it.

4. Water Fight

Bring out your inner child and have a classic water fight. Get water balloons, water guns, and water toys and invite some friends over. You’ll have so much fun, while cooling off from the scorching weather.

5.  Potluck Barbecue

One of the benefits of doing a potluck, is that you don’t have to spend all of your money on the food. You and your loved ones can split the cost of all of the food expenses. The weather is the perfect time to sit outside with family, listen to good music, and vibe.

Well, that’s all I have for today. I hope you found  these helpful. If you have any questions, concerns, or comments, feel free to reach out to me via the contact button.

Overcoming Doubting God

Blog Post Doubt

Hey guys,

Today I wanted to talk about a topic that many Christians want to ignore. It’s not our faults really. Our society makes it seem as though Christians must always be 100% chipper and optimistic. Well, I came to dispel this myth.

PSA: SOMETIMES CHRISTIANS DOUBT GOD

*Gasp*

In all seriousness, as human beings it is in our nature to question God. It is not necessarily the right thing to do, however, circumstances can make us feel this way.

Mark 9:24 “Lord I believe, help my unbelief.”

To put it into context, Jesus was about to perform a miracle and told a man that anything is possible if you believe. The man proceeded to respond with that statement.

Lately, that has been my prayer. Sometimes the negative things in your life can make it seem like God is not listening. You know he is because he is God. You have seen his presence and miracles in your life. Nonetheless, you may find it hard to embrace at the moment and doubt his plans. So how do you get out of this doubting pit? Here are a couple tips that are handy.

  1. Count Your Blessings

When you realize, verbalize, and mediate on the fact that God has blessed you, you will know that he is never there to leave you. He has a plan and a purpose for your life. Embrace the purpose by rehashing all of the positive aspects of your life. This reflection will help you to think of all of the times God has gotten you out of a disparaging situation.

2.   Fake it till you make it

This might come as a surprise to you.  However, “faking it” , in this sense is just stepping out on faith. Be encouraged knowing that when you take a leap of faith, you will start believing the aura that you are putting out.  For example, if you are doubting that God will take care of your finances, give a little extra at offering time. You might be thinking, Abisola are you crazy? The truth of the matter is that when you walk by faith, God will be faithful to you. This doesn’t have to correspond with finances but in your academics, relationships, career, and more.

3.  Read Your Word More

The bible is a story of all of the wonders and promises that God has fulfilled since the beginning of time. When you read his word, you will gain confidence in the promises that he has for you. You will get examples of how God has showed up in the lives of countless individuals.

Those are my top 3 tips. If you have questions, comments, or concerns, about this or any other topic, make sure that you reach out to me in the contact comment section.

“Wonder Woman” Review

Blog Post Wonder Woman

Hey guys,

I hope everything is good on your end.  Yesterday, I got to watch the highly popular movie “Wonder Woman.” Now I am not one for spoilers, but I would like to give you my honest opinion on the movie. For those of you who are interested in watching it, the good news is that it is definitely worth seeing. Here are some reasons why this movie is so awesome.

  1.  The Feminist Dream:

In most superhero films, the female heroine is slightly inferior, overly sexualized, or irrelevant. However, in this movie, “Wonder Woman” or Diana, was the main protaganist. She embodied feminine strength, emotional tenderness, and was simply a bad-ass. The movie was not about her helping a man as a sidekick, but depicted her as the powerful hero. It was refreshing to see.

2.  Compassion for Humanity

Diana knew that the world needed saving even though their actions did not deserve a savior. She was willing to risk everything to save just a few lives. Closer to the end, you see that despite man’s weaknesses, there is good in humanity.

3.  Action-Packed Fun

The fighting scenes were intense, but not gory.  It was so intriguing and really drew you in.  The battles kept you on your toes with different techniques.  The battles were frequent, but not overdrawn. Plus, the graphics and technology made the film realistic and enjoyable.

4. Plot Twists

In your mind, you have an initial idea about who Diana is and what is her mission. There are hints as to what will come after she finishes the plan. However,  there’s at least two good plot twists that will make you re-think the entire scenario.

5. Budding Romance

While this movie is no romantic comedy, there is a sense of love in the plot.  The love is strong, pure, and is not driven by lust.

Those are some of the reasons why I loved this movie. If you would like to talk more about it, or chat about your favorite parts, let me know in the contact comments section.

Immigrant Heritage Month

Blog Post Immigrant Heritage Month

Hi everyone,

I can’t believe June is already here. This year is going by in full force. For those of you who don’t know, June is Immigrant Heritage Month.

I am proud to say that I am a child of immigrants. My parents are from Nigeria. I am the first generation America.

I wanted to share why I am proud of my immigrant heritage.

  1.  Rich Culture

Nigeria is one of the most diverse countries in the world. There are hundreds of different languages, tribal groups, foods, and more. My culture plays a huge role in who I am. It sets me a part from other Americans. It teaches me about respect and honor, etiquette, mannerisms, and so forth. I would not change it for the world.

  2.  Best of Both Worlds

Being an immigrant’s child,  I have the opportunity to grasps two cultures. Even though Nigerian values have shaped me, I am also influenced by American values as well.  I can almost pick and choose what aspect of each culture I want to take from.

    3. Work Ethic

Essentially, my family came to America for a better life. They instilled in me a value for education that I may not have had if they weren’t immigrants.  Growing up Nigerian, I felt inherently obligated to succeed, to crown all of my parent’s efforts into success.  My parent’s journey to America will not be in vain in Jesus name.

Those are my top 3 reasons for loving my heritage. If you would like more posts relating to these topics, let me know in the contact comment section.

Stay Blessed,
